Sharing Passion for Cycling Across the Countries

Its not all about racing! Team Africa Rising also assists and promotes tourism entrepreneurs across Africa to showcase the true beauty of the continent. From safaris, bike adventures, and city tours, the opportunities are endless. Take a look at the options from some of our partners below.

Tourism Partnership with Jackson’s African Safaris

Timothy Jackson, the founder of Jackson's African Safaris, recognizes the value of the bicycle to Africans. He had firsthand experience of the use of a bicycle to transport commodities, water, and people.

During Rwanda's genocide in 1994, the bicycle offered some an escape route. Mr. Jackson contacted the founders of Team Rwanda Cycling to propose long-term cooperation with Team Africa Rising.

Recognizing Our Efforts

Jackson's African Safaris recognizes the significance of Team Africa Rising's efforts with multiple teams across the continent. It is critical to support these teams with programs and draw worldwide attention to these organizations' work.

Tourism may make or break the long-term health and survival of Africa's species, landscapes, and people in today's world. With Covid-19, Africa has seen one of its most crucial GDP contributors come to a complete stop in the past three years. Fortunately, the industry is roaring back!

Contributions

When a client is recommended to Jackson's African Safaris through the Team Africa Rising Organization, Jackson's African Safaris will provide the Team Africa Rising Organization a full 10% of the tour price, or as close to this as feasible. Mr. Jackson explains that any personal clients or recommendations may pick where they contribute their 10%. He will always draw his clients' attention to their company's list of preferred donors, including (TAR) Team Africa Rising.

Cycling in Rwanda

The country of Rwanda is renowned as the Land of a Thousand Hills and a bike rider's paradise. Rwanda is the birthplace of one of Africa's most famous cyclists, Adrien Niyonshuti. Adrien was Rwanda's first Olympic cyclist qualifier, becoming the first black African rider in history to finish an XCO MTB Olympic event at the 2012 London Olympics. He raced at the top level of cycling - the World Tour - for many years, including representing his country at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Cycle Tourism

If you would like to arrange a cycle tour in Rwanda, we recommend contacting Rafiki Bikes. Rafiki Uwimana, one of the original members of Team Rwanda Cycling and a three-time finisher of the Cape Epic, owns Rafiki Bikes. He gives personally guided mountain bike tours and is one of the official guides of the Congo-Nile Trail. Rafiki mapped most of the route. Rafiki also speaks English.

For additional mountain bike and road cycling tours contact Yannick Godwin, owner of Lava Bike Tours. Yannick is a Team Africa Rising trained mechanic and guide. He speaks English and looks forward to riding with you!

Cycling in Ethiopia

Due to the current situation in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, all tours in this area are suspended.

Team Africa Rising recommends Ride the Rift, a collaboration of several touring companies offering off-road, safe adventures in this beautiful country. They are currently offering tours on their website.

Supporting the Local Economy

Our work started in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic started to hit Ethiopia’s tourism industry. Our first event was a charity bike ride in Ankober which raised over 500,000 Birr. These funds were distributed to over 60 cooks and guides across Ethiopia who had been deprived of an income since the start of the pandemic.

We are continuing to fundraise for individual freelance providers with the support of generous corporate donations.

Cycling in Morocco

Cycling is a real passion in Morocco in North Africa. Most tourists arrive in the capital city of Marrakech, and you can choose to either explore this magical city by bicycle or venture further afield to explore the unique countryside or the majestic Atlas Mountains.

Team Africa Rising recommends Marrakech Green Wheels to deliver exciting guided cycling tours in Marrakech and around Morocco to discover its real magic. Each cycling experience is a travel into the rich history, distinct geography, and diverse culture of Morocco.

Marrakech Green Wheels is a community project founded in 2015 thanks to the original idea of two young Moroccans passionate about cycling and the protection of the environment. They have introduced the bicycle to locals and tourists and encouraged cycling to provide an affordable and sustainable means of transportation, promote ecotourism in Morocco and combat unemployment by providing sustainable employment and training for Moroccan youth.
