Unifying African countries through the sport of cycling

Team Rwanda was founded in 2006 by a group of cycling industry legends and friends after watching some fantastic raw talent compete at the first Wooden Bike Classic. That was the beginning of Team Rwanda Cycling.
UCI Continental Team Development
Our goal is to assist African cycling clubs and private and business parties interested in forming African UCI Continental teams. Our goal is to help in launching 10 UCI Continental Teams between 2018 and 2023. TAR provides access to sponsors, business planning, UCI registration assistance, coaching and mechanic support as well as additional training for all necessary team support staff. TAR also works with individual cyclists to give them the essential tools and knowledge to develop and grow in the sport of cycling from the grassroots level to the international stage.
Women’s Cycling
The world of professional women’s cycling is just beginning to advance worldwide. However, on the African continent, the women still face insurmountable odds due to culture, lack of access to bikes, training, and coaching, and an unquestionably poor racing schedule.
Team Africa Rising is working towards launching the first Pan African women’s professional cycling team. Until that team becomes a reality we will advocate for equality in opportunities for women and access to all the same opportunities afforded the men. TAR will also support individual women selected for European or American teams via stipends, flights and access to sponsored gear.
How Do I Get Involved?
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” —African Proverb.
“Cycling for everyone has more defeat than victory, even for the great Eddy Merckx who won over 400 races, more pain than wellness, more effort than glory, but all of that combined makes cycling so fascinating. The public wants to see the hell before heaven: the suffering before the win. You need to stay dedicated to your dream. The real cyclist is a person who after a bad race on Sunday wakes up on Monday and is ready to go out on the bike to train to get better.”
– Rubens Bertogliati, former pro cyclist
