Team Rwanda Dassi are taking on some of the UK's toughest bike races and the Ryedale GP was no exception!
The Ryedale GP is a Motorpoint Grand Prix series 150km road race organised by Bob Howden of British Cycling featuring a three lap large circuit followed by five laps of a smaller loop around the stunning Ampleforth Abbey & School estate. Over 150 riders from the UK's elite racing teams took part, with riders from Team Wiggins, JLT Condor, Raleigh GAC, NFTO, Pedal Heaven, Wheelbase, VELO and many others on the start list.
There was significant interest in the presence of Team Rwanda Dassi and all the teams were very welcoming, with the mechanics of Raleigh GAC and JLT Condor more than happy to help us with a few minor tweaks. The riders and coach Sterling were also interviewed by the awesome teal at CycleVox for their show to appear on Eurosport later this week (see our social feeds for when this is!)

Being the first race of the UK tour, having not trained in over 10 days and off the back of a challenging Vuelta a Colombia, this race against the elite of British Cycling was always going to be a challenge and it proved to be. The pace of the race was incredible and only around 1/3 of the participants completed the race. Joseph and Bosco lasted the longest for us and sat firmly with the pro peloton for 3-4 laps before succumbing to fatigue and withdrawing from the race.
It was a good lesson for our young riders in what the level they need to achieve in the next 6-8 years of their development looks like, in order to join a pro team and race at Continental or World Tour level. We had excellent feedback from the other riders and team managers as to the effort and bike skills of these young riders. 'Plenty of raw talent and energy' was a common theme!
