Team Rwanda has a long and proud history of competing in the Cape Epic in South Africa. 2016 was our best ever result!

The ABSA Cape Epic, held in South Africa in March 2016, is known as the world's toughest MTB stage race - the 'offroad Tour de France' - and Team Rwanda has raced this event several times since we were established in 2007. 2016 represented a major step-up for the team with Rio 2016 Olympic MTB rider Nathan Byukusenge teamed with up-and-coming South Africa rider Thinus Redelinghuys. Nathan was also debuting his 2016 Scott Spark RC900 racing bike which will be used throughout his 2016 international campaign, up to his Olympic race in August.

After a gruelling 5 stages of all day racing, Nathan and Thinus crossed the line in third place in the ABSA Africa jersey category and 18th out of 450 teams overall. This is an amazing result for Rwanda, with Nathan also being the only non-South African in the top 20 Africa riders also. Full results can be found on the Cape Epic website here: https://www.cape-epic.com/riders/the-2016-race/results

Many thanks indeed to Scott Mountain Bikes SA for all their support at this race, we could not have achieved this without you! #teamisteam #africarising
