Check out our new partnership with Matrix Fitness Cycling to support the development of Jeanne d'Arc Girubuntu - Rwanda's first female pro rider
The Matrix Fitness Cycling Team is one of the UK's leading women's cycling teams, run by industry legend Stefan Wyman and includes world superstars Laura Trott and Elinor Barker, as well as up-and-coming riders such as Isla Rush, Alice Cobb and Harriet Owen.
In May 2016, a partnership was created between Matrix Fitness Cycling and Team Rwanda Cycling to support the development of Jeanne d'Arc Girubuntu as Rwanda's first female professional rider. This partnership initially is focused on developing supplemental revenue streams for Team Rwanda Cycling to ensure Jeanne d'Arc has a good salary, English lessons and can support her family. Her mother is a genocide survivor and deeply affected by this terrible event. Jeanne d'Arc is the main earner in her family group so her racing is providing a much-needed income for this large family group.
An auction of Matrix Fitness merchandise and signed prints of Laura Trott and Elinor Barker was held at the Matrix team launch in May and generated over $1,200 which exceeds Jeanne d'Arc's annual salary so will allow Team Rwanda Cycling to allocate this revenue into her training and development even more! Jeanne d'Arc will hopefully continue her growth in 2016 and we are excited to be discussing potential pro contracts with international teams for 2017. Watch This space!
